Tragedy struck yesterday in Lagos as a 21-storey building located at 20, Gerrard Road in Ikoyi collapsed as some people have been confirmed dead and others rescued with various degrees of injuries.
However, speaking on the unfortunate incident that happened on Monday afternoon, November 1st, 2021, Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) General Manager, Gbolahan Oki, said;
“The owner of the collapsed 21-storey building in Ikoyi was given the approval to construct only 15 floors.”
“The owner has been arrested and will be prosecuted.”
“The materials he used for the reinforcement are so terrible. He got approval for 15 floors but built 21. He has been arrested.”
“So far, four people have been rescued alive and three bodies recovered. Rescue efforts are continuing.”
“Dozens of people were at the site when the incident occurred. The construction was to end in 2022.”
Oki made the revelation in a chat with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
