Nigerian singer, Oludipe Olwasanmi David, better known as Spyro, has publicly called out music executive Ubi Franklin over an alleged unpaid debt amounting to $5,000 (approximately N31.1 million).
In a recent statement, Spyro claimed that Ubi Franklin had initially agreed to pay him $5,000 for performing at a birthday party, which Franklin had organized for a client named David.
Spyro said; “Ubi came to me and said David wanted us to perform at his birthday party and offered $5,000. But when I spoke to him, I made it clear that I don’t charge that amount. I usually charge at least N20 million in Nigerian currency.”
However, Spyro accused Ubi of changing the story after he performed, alleging that Franklin later claimed it wasn’t David who had made the request for the performance.
In response, Ubi Franklin countered Spyro’s allegations, saying; “Enough is enough. Some time ago, Spyro came to me saying he wanted to buy a car, and I helped connect him with a seller. When I facilitate deals like this, I take a 10% commission. Spyro eventually bought the car for N100 million, and I didn’t even ask for my cut.”
He continued; “Later, we went to Ghana for Iyanya’s birthday. While we were there, one of my contacts called us for a show after the original artistes canceled. I told Spyro and Iyanya that the pay for the show was $5,000. After the money was paid to me, I reached out to Spyro for my 10% from the car deal, but he kept dodging my calls.”
Franklin concluded; “The $5,000 is still with me. If Spyro wants to continue attacking my name, then he should pay me my 10% for the car deal, which he still hasn’t done.”
The back-and-forth between Spyro and Ubi Franklin has sparked a public dispute, with both parties standing firm on their claims regarding the unpaid debt.
