The new Commissioner of Police in charge of FCT, CP Adewale Ajao has pledged to deploy Technology in tackling evolving crimes in the seat of power.
The new Police boss made the pledge while addressing newsmen today at the command headquarters in Garki.
According to Ajao, the command will strive to employ and deploy state of the art technology, including CCTV Cameras, drones and digital crime mapping tools to monitor and respond to distress calls on criminal activities in real time.
He added that a 24-hour Command and Control Centre will be established to coordinate rapid responses to emergencies, with a view to reducing response to distress time.
He also hinted that his command would prioritize training and welfare of officers and men, while ensuring they are equipped with skills, tools and motivation needed to do their job effectively.
CP Ajao warned that his tenure will enforce zero tolerance to corruption and bad policing of the populace.
His words: “We are not unaware of the security challenges posed by crimes and violence, social unrest, kidnapping, youth restiveness, cybercrime, inequality among others. But I stand before you today, committed to tackling these challenges head-on and ensuring that the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja remains a safer and secure place that is livable and crime free.
“I am fully committed to a peaceful and crime free FCT in line with the vision of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who reposed this confidence in me, and I pledge to do my best to ensure that the force is not let down.
“It is therefore on this mindset that I welcome our Distinguished Gentlemen of the Press, the command Management Team, Area commanders, Divisional Police officers, head of various tactical units here present to this gathering.
“Achieving the task of a peaceful and crime free FCT is our collective responsibility hence I call on all stakeholders and relevant agencies to join me in this crusade for making the nation’s Federal Capital, a model for measuring excellence in crime control.
“My vision is anchored on the strategic priorities set by the Inspector General of Police, which emphasize community policing, intelligence-led operations, and the use of technology to combat crime. In line with this vision, and building on the foundation laid by my predecessor, my mission is to ensure that every resident of the FCT feels safe and secure in their homes, workplaces, and public spaces.
“We will adopt a proactive approach to crime prevention by leveraging on intelligence, technology, and community partnerships.
“We will foster a strong relationship between the police and the community, by ensuring that the police are seen as partners in security rather than enforcers.
“We will Uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability within the FCT Police Command.”
He added: “We will strengthen the Community Policing Initiative by working closely with community leaders, youth groups, and traditional rulers to identify and address security challenges at the grassroots level. Regular town hall meetings and community engagement programs will be held to foster trust and collaboration.
“We will re-jig our State Intelligence Department (SID) to a more Robust Intelligence Unit to gather, analyze, and act on actionable intelligence to prevent crimes before they occur.
“We will partner with Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies, such as the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), will be strengthened to enhance information sharing.”
