Instagram sensation, Ramoni Igbalode, popularly known as Hushpuppi is in for it as United States District Court for the Central District of California has now sentenced him to 11 years and three months in prison for conspiring to launder multi-million dollars from online scams.
He was sentenced by United States District Judge, Otis D. Wright II on Monday, November 7th, 2022.
The judge also ordered him to pay $1,732,841 in restitution to his two fraud victims.
It is interesting to know that Hushpuppi, in April 2021, pleaded guilty to money laundering.
In June 2020, he got arrested in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and has remained in federal custody since his expulsion from the UAE.
Hushpuppi confessed that he attempted to steal more than $1.1 million from someone who wanted to fund a new children’s school in Qatar.
“Hushpuppi tricked his victim into providing funds for the school by playing the roles of bank officials and creating a bogus website,” a statement from the then-acting US Attorney, Tracy Wilkinson reads on the US justice department’s website.
Also, according to the US justice department; “Abbas admitted to several other cyber and business email compromise schemes that cumulatively caused more than $24 million in losses.”
