The Healthcare Federation of Nigeria (HFN) hosted a landmark high-level healthcare policy dialogue, forging sustainable health system reforms through public-private partnerships (PPPs), specifically supporting the Sector-Wide Approach (SWAP) in healthcare.
The dialogue brought together distinguished ministers, key dignitaries, international experts, and influential healthcare leaders. Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, emphasized, “To achieve the health sector we desire, public-private partnerships are a no-brainer.” He highlighted critical issues such as infrastructure, access to services, and healthcare professionals.
Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced a transformative multi-pillar strategy to revamp Nigeria’s healthcare system, focusing on data management and digitalization. “In the 21st century, we must ensure our data is accurate and actionable,” Dr. Alausa remarked.
HFN President, Dr. Pamela Ajayi, stressed the urgency of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) with private sector involvement. “Collaboration between all stakeholders is essential for building a cohesive and effective healthcare system,” Dr. Ajayi remarked. “The sector-wide approach (SWAp) is urgently needed to bring together government, donors, NGOs, and private sector stakeholders under a unified framework.”
Renowned international public health leader Prof. Ilona Kickbusch joined virtually, emphasizing digital transformation. “Investing in digital health literacy for young Nigerians is crucial, as over half of the population is under 19,” Prof. Kickbusch noted.
