Defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT) Chairman, Abdulrasheed Maina is in for it as the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday, November 8th, 2021, convicted and sentenced him to eight years in prison for money laundering.
The court in a judgement delivered by Justice Okon Abang, found Maina guilty on all the 12-count charge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) preferred against him and his company, Common Input Property and Investment Limited.
Justice Abang said; “The anti-graft agency has successfully established the essential ingredients of the offences contained in the charge, beyond a reasonable doubt.”
“The sentence will run concurrently, with effect from October 25, 2019. Maina and his firm will restitute about N2.1 billion that was traced to their bank accounts, to the Federal Government, after which the company shall wound up.”
“Maina’s two choice properties at Life camp and Jabi districts of Abuja will be forfeited to the government as well as the auction of a bulletproof car and a BMW 5 series car that was found on his premises.”
“Though the law made provision for a maximum sentence of 14 years, I am moved by Maina’s plea for mercy.”
It is interesting to know that a month ago, Maina’s son, Faisal was jailed by the court after finding him guilty on all three counts of money laundering involving N58.1 million in public funds.
