A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has granted the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele bail.
Emefiele was granted bail on Tuesday, July 25th, 2023 in the sum of N20 million and a surety in like sum.
The bail followed a two-count charge of illegal possession of firearm brought against him by the Department of State Services (DSS).
For those who don’t know, Emefiele had been in DSS custody for over a month following his suspension by President Bola Tinubu as CBN governor.
It is interesting to know that his lawyer, Mr. Joseph Daudu (SAN) had applied for Emefiele’s bail after pleading not guilty to the two-count charge.
Emefiele’s lawyer contended that the offence for which his client was charged is bailable.
Emefiele, following his arrival in court on Tuesday was immediately taken to the courtroom of Justice Nicolas Oweibo, trial judge in the matter.
