Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reassured residents of his commitment to ensuring the safety of the state, emphasizing that he will not rest until every part of Oyo is secure.
The governor made this declaration during the 2025 annual inter-faith service for workers held in the state capital, Ibadan.
Makinde’s statement comes amid growing concerns over the influx of bandits from the Northwest to the state, as they flee increased military pressure in their home regions.
Makinde expressed his concern over the security challenges faced in 2024, which included fire outbreaks, armed robberies, and kidnappings, but emphasized that efforts to address these issues would be intensified in 2025.
“The year 2024 was challenging, particularly in terms of safety and security. We had incidents of fire outbreaks, armed robberies, and kidnappings. However, in 2025, we will redouble our efforts to address these issues,” Makinde said.
He also revealed details from a recent security briefing, noting that some criminal elements had been relocating to Oyo State. “I learned that some bad elements from the North-West are relocating here due to military heat in their zones. But we will find and deal with them,” the governor vowed.
Makinde also recounted an alarming experience during his birthday retreat, where bandits were discovered camping less than two kilometers from his location, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
The governor urged traditional rulers to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their communities to security forces. “To our traditional rulers, who are custodians of your domains, and to all residents, this is no joke. If you see suspicious movements, report them immediately,” he said.
Reaffirming his commitment, Makinde assured the people of Oyo State: “For us in Oyo, bandits will have no foothold. I will not sleep until every inch of this state is safe.”
Governor Makinde’s pledge reflects his resolve to strengthen the state’s security framework and tackle the growing threat of criminal activities.
