Augustine Aigbotsua Emerges Winner Of ‘For The Love Of Golf’ 2020 Charity Golf Tournament

Augustine Aigbotsua of Ikeja Golf Club playing off handicap 12 has emerged winner of the For the Love of Golf 2020 Charity Golf Tournament held at Ikeja Golf Club over the weekend.

Aigbostua became the 2020 champion after recording 64nett to edged Michael Makinde who plays handicap 18 that got 67nett to the second place while Talal Fawze with handicap 8 returned with 69net on count back to place third.

Clement Onyeyiri became winner in the Veteran category with 70nett while Busola Ladipo playing off handicap 20 won the ladies category with 71nett while Oyinlola Mamudu with 72nett scores on count back ended up as the runner up.

The convener of the annual Charity Golf Tournament, Mrs. Florence Adesola Falaiye in her address revealed that the proceeds from this year’s tournament will be channel towards procurement of medical instruments for the pediatric cancer ward of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital to fight cancer.

According to Falaiye, who is a degree holder in commercial law from the University of Lagos, the focus for this year’s Charity Golf Tournament is to raise funds to win the fight against the dreaded cancer disease.

Over 100 golfers from various notable golf clubs across the nation took part in the unique tournament played on the lush-green course of the prestigious Ikeja Golf Club, Lagos this weekend.

The legal practitioner who is the founder of “For the Love of Golf” group and a strong member of Ikeja Golf Club, said her commitment to life changing drive with people of same passion gave her the drive to organise the charity tournament which geared towards catering for the needs of the less privileged.

She added; “The resident doctor of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Roland Osuoji, in consultation with the pediatric ward of the hospital, said they are in need of chemotherapeutic agents, Vincristine, Actinomycin D, Doxorubucin, Cisplatin, Bleomycin Cyclophosphamide.

“Haematinics including Tothema inj, erythropoetin with small refrigerator, i-stat analyzer and central line catheters for immediate use and whatever we can raise from the tournament will go straight toward it.”

Mrs. Falaiye, the deputy managing director and secretary of Afkar Printing and Publishing Company, who is also a passionate golfer and humanitarian, said the Charity Golf Tournament will address other salient medical issues next year when the tournament takes place.

A 12-man committee and three trustee members comprising sound minds from various professions have been working assiduously over the years with the visioner to actualize the lofty project.
