I have just been on the yet uncompleted Lagos-Ibadan Expressway…..after so many years!
It was disheartening to see that there are weeds growing in the inner edge and thick bushes between the to/fro median of the road, already!
Haba!
Our well known lack of a maintenance culture again!
We like to appropriate money for projects, loot a good percentage of it, utilize the balance over a long period of time, revise the cost upwards, and finally launch the completion with fanfare, only to let it degrade or sometimes rot away due to lack of maintenance!
Even if we are the richest country on earth, for how long can we afford to round trip expenses and waste resources like this?!
When there are many other areas crying for attention!
What kind of people are we?
For how long can we continue to ignore otherwise simple issues until they become big problems?
