An umbrella body of all Akokwa women- either by birth or marriage, has been inaugurated. Known as Akokwa Digital Ladies, the body aims at uniting all Akokwa women, home and abroad for familiarisation, ventilation of ideas, networking and business opportunities.
The body which was last month inaugurated in Asaba, the Delta state capital amid fanfare attracted creme la de creme of Akokwa women within the Asaba/Onitsha axis. It was indeed a galaxy of delectable Akokwa women.
Speaking at the event, the founding chairperson of the body, Nneoma Lady Maria Ihionu expressed the hope that Akokwa Digital Ladies will go a long way in fostering love, unity and sisterhood among Akokwa women at home and diaspora.
The body, Lady Ihionu further explained, will help project to the rest of Nigeria and to the world, the elegant tributes of Akokwa women which she said include intelligence, wisdom, humility and conviviality.
“Akokwa Ditigal Ladies is for all women of sound mind in Akokwa both within and diaspora…our aim is to bring Akokwa women under one umbrella to achieve common goal”, Lady Ihionu said
Speaking further, she listed categories of women needed as members of the body to include:
- Women who are sound in mind
- Akokwa ladies by birth(Whether married in Akokwa or elsewhere)
- Akokwa ladies by marriage( even if not born in Akokwa but married to an Akokwa man)
Apart from the Chairperson, Lady (Dr) Chinwe Muomalu was also a Speaker at the inaugural meeting.
The organisers later resolved to make the get together of the body an annual affair.
