Legendary Afrobeat musician, Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s son, Seun Kuti has been detained by the Lagos State Police Command after he turned himself in following an assault on a police officer.
Be that as it may, speaking in an interview recently, his manager, Ayo Moses, gave an insight of what happened between the police officer and the musician.
He said; “On the said day, Seun was driving with his family on the third mainland bridge, when he was suddenly hit from behind, by a police truck being driven by an officer who was reportedly drunk.”
“This act from the officer led Seun’s daughter into a sudden shock, as she was visibly shaken by the hit. So, this made Seun pursue the truck, double-crossed it and forced it to a stop.”
“When the police officer got down from the truck, instead of apologizing, he was arguing with Seun, which provoked him to slap the officer.”
“People should realize that men on uniforms also provoke civilians. Immunity is no excuse for impunity.”
For those who don’t know, the singer has been in police detention since on Monday morning, May 15th, 2023 after he reported himself to the police headquarters in Ikeja.
However, we can tell you for free that the singer was moved from the Lagos State Police Command headquarters, Ikeja to the State Criminal Investigation Department Yaba, where he was interrogated till night.
The singer was thereafter moved to a cell where he passed the night.
However, according to police sources, Seun Kuti could be arraigned in court.
Meanwhile, in a statement by the Lagos State Police Spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin via his Twitter page, he said; “Contrary to some people’s emotion-laden expectations, we are smart enough not to torture him.”
“We will not undermine our case. Not a finger has been laid on him nor will be laid on him. Like we assured, full and transparent investigation…”
