That famous actor, Olanrewaju James, popularly known as Baba Ijesha was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command on Thursday, April 22, 2021 for raping a minor is an established fact.
Be that as it may, Nollywood ace actor and former House of Representatives member, Rotimi Makinde has immediately lent his voice on the rape allegation against his colleague.
He took to his Facebook page and wrote; “Baba Ijesha the popular comedian deserves some benefit of doubt until a court of competent jurisdiction proofs him guilty of any offence. I understand he was alleged to have committed an illegal act…”
“Or Is it a crime to be a movie star! Let’s be patient, show the accused some love even as we condemn any bad act and to stop jumping to conclusions on his alleged assault on a minor…. It’s like some of us want him down before now?”
“Crime is bad but crucification of any suspect on its own is also a crime…. Of course, we can pity the alleged victim.”
However, following the backlash that accompanied his post, the former lawmaker had no choice but to pull down the post.
For those who don’t know, Lagos State Police Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi on Thursday, April 22, 2021, said; “The case of defilement was reported on 19th April, 2021 by one Princess Adekola Adekanya at Sabo Police Station.”
“It has been transferred to the Gender Unit of the State CID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos for investigation. Based on preliminary findings, the suspect started sexually assaulting the victim, who is now 14 years old since she was 7 years old.”
“The suspect confessed to the crime and was also captured by a CCTV camera in the house of the complainant. The Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has promised that justice will be done in the matter.”
