Tony Elumelu Gets Global Appointment

Tony Elumelu, Chairman of United Bank for Africa Plc, Heirs Holdings, and Transcorp, as well as the Founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, has been appointed to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Advisory Council on Entrepreneurship and Growth.

The announcement was made on Friday by IMF Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva.

The newly established advisory council includes global business leaders, policymakers, and academics, all dedicated to addressing regulatory barriers to entrepreneurship.

The IMF noted that Elumelu, a strong advocate for African entrepreneurship, will play a crucial role in ensuring that Africa’s entrepreneurial potential is prioritized in global policy discussions.

As the founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, which has supported over 25,000 African entrepreneurs since 2015, Elumelu promotes entrepreneurship as a key driver for Africa’s economic transformation. His philosophy of Africapitalism emphasizes the importance of private sector investment in Africa’s long-term development, creating both social and economic value.

In her remarks at the advisory council’s inaugural meeting on March 26, Georgieva highlighted that the appointees will share insights on how macroeconomic and financial policies can foster innovation, entrepreneurship, and productivity – critical elements for a vibrant private sector and sustainable economic growth.Get smarter responses, upload files and images, and more.
