Nigerian up-and-coming artiste, Chukwukere Elvis Chekwube popularly known by his stage name Mr Chuks has stated that music is more of a way of life rather than a career to him.
The native of Ntueke in Ideato South LGA, Imo State artiste who was born on October 2, 1994 said he has been writing his songs since he was 12 years of age which made him grow into it.
Speaking about his journey into music, Mr Chuks said; “I was born and raised in Onitsha, Anambra State and based in Lagos State Nigeria. I am a vocalist, song writer and performer. I Studied computer science at Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti, in Ekiti State in the Western part of Nigeria”.
“I started writing since I was 12, will always record with my Brother’s Nokia phone. Funny funny songs, we’ll always laugh at them.”
“Gradually, I started developing passion for music, with every year that goes by, I see myself improving and evolving. I guess I started from the bottom, now i’m here to stay”.
“I recorded my first studio song in 2016. Very sweet song “Amaka.” It never made it online. Maybe I’ll have to adjust it and drop it in the nearest future.”
“T-slym the producer then was asking my friend Simeon Green, if he’s sure that I’ve not been to a studio before, for an upcoming artiste I didn’t stress him.”
“I was so fast and didn’t sing out of key. I told him I’ve been practicing with my phone, apps like TuneMe or Voloco. I think i had extra four studio records before my first official single “Adaoma.”
“I went on and on dropping “Gossip” and “Marry You Featuring Li Joe before dropping my First studio debut Album “The Journey Called Love” on August 20th, 2021, last year.”
“My first stage name was SugarBoy, unfortunately a popular Nigerian art broke the timeline with that name. I had to change it to ChuksCheks, it sounded weird, I thought about it severally and I decided to Switch to MR CHUKS.”
“The name Chuks was gotten from my surname Chukwukere. I opted to using it because it’s unique, I wouldn’t want picking up a name and SugarBoy issue comes up again.”
“Though there’s a saying “Na who blow first get name” lol but I don’t want to take chances again. So I think Mr Chuks is perfect.”
“I would say I started with RNB, and now Afro-pop. I’m trying to create my own sound, I guess I should call it Afro-fusion.” he said.
Speaking of his philosophy, he said; “I believe in the supernatural being, one God, the creator of Heaven & Earth, the maker of the whole universe and that prayer works.”
“I believe in Nature. I believe in Karma, everyman will some day be rewarded according to their deeds. I still have faith in Humanity.”
