LG Electronics Celebrates Women On International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is observed annually on March 8 and celebrates the global “social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.” The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day: “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, calls for action to advance gender equality.

This year’s campaign is represented by the #BreakTheBias hashtag and calls on people to work towards a world that is equitable, inclusive, and free from bias and discrimination so the playing field is levelled for women moving forward.

Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively, we can all #BreakTheBias. “Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead.”

Speaking on the Women’s Day organized for Women in LG Electronics Africa Logistics, The Managing Director, LG Electronics Nigeria, Mr. Dong Youn Kim said; “Women play a key role in crafting lives with their love, commitment and dedication. We applaud their endeavours in every field as none can replace them.’’

He continued by saying he has created a good working environment for all and to this day, there is no segregation in LG Electronics as far as gender in concerned. Workplace gender equality will be achieved when people are able to access and enjoy equal rewards, resources and opportunities regardless of gender.

He concluded by saying, today is a meaningful day as we are all children born of women. Let’s thank our mothers and congratulate colleagues.

Achieving gender equality is important for workplaces not only because it is ‘fair’ and ‘the right thing to do,’ but because it is also linked to a country’s overall economic performance.

Workplace gender equality is associated with: improved national productivity and economic growth, increased organizational performance, enhanced ability of companies to attract talent and retain employees and enhanced organizational reputation.
