Juliet Green&White as Ambassador Juliet Geoffrey Porbeni is popularly called has congratulated Nigerians as they celebrate Democracy Day, today, Friday June 12th, 2020.
Amb. Juliet who is the Chief Executive Officer of Miss Green&White Nigeria cum Founder, JulietGreen&White Foundation equally used the occasion to advise President Muhammadu Buhari to put concerted efforts to ensure the health and welfare of the citizens by providing security to lives and properties.
She said; “In Nigeria political history, Democracy Day marks the day the military handed over power to an elected civilian government in 1999, marking the beginning of the longest continuous civilian rule since Nigeria’s independence from colonial rule in 1960.”
“It is a tradition that has been held annually, beginning in year 2000. June 12 was formerly known as Abiola Day, these were done to commemorate the democratic election of MKO Abiola on June 12, 1993, in what has been adjudged to be Nigeria’s freest and fairest elections.”
“It commemorates the restoration of democracy in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. May 29 was initially the official democracy day in Nigeria, marking when the newly elected Olusegun Obasanjo came into office as the President of Nigeria in 1999, ending multiple decades of military rule that began in 1966 and had been interrupted only by a brief period of democracy from 1979 to 1983.”
“The President Buhari-led Federal Government of Nigeria declared June 12 to be the new Democracy Day. I congratulate Nigeria for this democracy and wish Nigeria well.”
“I want the government to continue restructuring, redefining and keep Nigeria alive to get to her el dorado.”
“President Buhari being the father of the nation, his government in power should put concerted efforts to ensure the health and welfare of the people by providing security, protecting lives and properties of Nigerians.”
“Also creating employment for Nigerian youths, creating investment and opening up for foreign invertors to come in and grow our economy, most especially now that Covid-19 is keeping every one at home, I want them to do more for the benefits of Nigerians.”
