Nigeria’s Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio seemed to have landed himself in trouble after he declared during a plenary on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 that a token had been sent to the accounts of each Senator as they proceed on holiday.
Akpabio, however, withdrew his statement saying; “in order to allow you to enjoy your holiday, the Senate President has sent prayers to your mail boxes to assist you to go on a safe journey and retun.”
Be that has it may, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has resolved to file a lawsuit against Akpabio following his comment.
SERAP, made the announcement in a statement via its Twitter page on Thursday, August 10th, 2023.
It reads; “We’re suing the Senate President Godswill Akpabio over the alleged payments of “holiday allowances” by the Clerk of the National Assembly into the “various accounts” of senators while some 137 million poor Nigerians face severe economic hardship.”
