There seemed to be a lingering war between Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti and famous comedian, Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY.
Just recently the singer came out publicly to tell everyone that cares to listen why he mocked AY when his Lagos mansion got burnt.
He said; “They say I dey laugh Ayo Makun (AY) say him house burn. You know follow me often because people wey dey follow me often go tell say the day gangan wey the house burn, I went live.”
“As the house dey burn, as dem dey try quench the fire, I was on live. Except you sef when he (AY) dey portray my daughter as dog for his yeye skit video; dey take my trials and tribulations take make joke.”
“He used my trials and tribulations to make joke. Not only that. He called my daughter a dog basically in his useless skit.”
“That unfunny modaf**ker. That dry goat with smelly mouth. His mouth dey smell. Ask anybody in the industry except they want to lie to you.”
“My own daughter he portray as dog. That one wey dem beat his wife for house. No woman for his life go ever respect him because I’m sure his children have seen him beating his wife.”
However, in his reaction, AY, denied portraying the singer’s daughter as a dog in the said skit.
He said; “Hello Seun, this is to address the sensationalism that’s been created around social media space. I decided to respond to this because you mentioned your child.”
“I love children. So, the minute you referred to the skit I did addressing your baby as a dog, I just felt the need to address this. I’m one human being who looked for a child for 13 years. I don’t think I will find myself in the position to mock a child and refer to that child as a dog.”
“Concerning the skit I made something in June, I want to categorically say that I’m a stand-up comedian. As stand-up comedians, we run social comments on different activities on trending issues. But I’ve come to understand that in Nigeria now people take comedians seriously and take the politicians as the jokers.”
“If you’re familiar with my brand and style of comedy, AY Live, everything that you see I do, I do a lot of stage dramas and then we just talk about trending issues. Now, the skit was a reflection of trending issues.”
“I talked about fuel subsidy which was trending at that time. And if recall, at that time Hilda Baci and Enioluwa were both trending for eating dog meat.”
“And a woman called them out. And then I mentioned the name Hilda in the scene where the dog was sitting in the back seat of the car in the skit. That was what I was portraying in that video.”
“If anyone is supposed to be offended by the video, it is Hilda Baci but she understood that it was a joke.”
“Seun Kuti has also shaded me in the past, including lambasting me for accepting a national award from the presidency.”
