Night clubs, bars and lounges owners in the Lekki axis of Lagos State are in trouble as the State Government has threatened to shutdown their businesses if they fail to control the noise pollution.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tunji Bello made the warning in a statement.
He said; “Enforcement raids are recently carried out on some nightclubs in Lekki following repeated complaints by residents.”
“Prest Jazz Club on Admiralty Way, Lekki, was shut after enforcement officers of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) raided the club and found giant speakers and musical instruments blaring loudly.”
“Many residents of highbrow Lekki, especially elderly citizens, have inundated my office with petitions about the adverse effect of noise pollution on their health every night till the early hours of the day.”
“The exercise will continue, I advise clubs notorious for noise pollution to retrace their steps before it is too late. Such facilities will be shut down and the owners prosecuted.”
