25-Years Of Democracy Worth Celebrating – Hon. Akinsanya

Honourable Prince Nureni Akinsanya, a legislator representing Mushin Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has pointed out that the 25 years of unbroken democratic governance in Nigeria are worth celebrating.

Akinsanya, made this statement during the commemoration of Nigeria’s 2024 Democracy Day at a plenary session presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon. Dr. Mudashiru Obasa.

Members of the parliament paid tribute to the martyrs, heroes, and heroines of Nigeria’s democracy with a minute of silence.

During the lively discussions at the plenary, lawmakers reflected on the significance of June 12 and expressed renewed hope in the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Akinsanya, who chairs the House Committee on Public Accounts (Local), congratulated Speaker Obasa, President Tinubu, and Nigerians, stressing the importance of celebrating the country’s uninterrupted democratic governance.

“The joy of living in a democratic Nigeria cannot be overemphasized, especially when compared to any military regime. Nigeria’s uninterrupted democratic governance in the past 25years calls for celebration and merriment,” he said.

He further urged Nigerians to uphold the rule of law, which he believes is crucial for a better Nigeria.

“I pray that Nigerians continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy. Consequently, I urge Nigerians to uphold the rule of law, which is essential for a better Nigeria,” he concluded.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari declared June 12 as Nigeria’s Democracy Day on June 6, 2018, in honor of late Chief M.K.O Abiola and other heroes and heroines of democracy, both living and deceased. The day replaced May 29 as the official Democracy Day in Nigeria.
